Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - MFT Clinic at Chaminade University

  • The first/intake session is $20. After that, session fees are set on a sliding scale based on ability to pay. Fees will be determined at the first session.

  • Yes. Wait times vary depending on demand and therapist availability. On average, most new clients can expect an initial appointment within 1–3 weeks.

  • Therapy is provided by advanced clinical graduate student interns in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Chaminade University. All sessions are closely supervised by licensed faculty supervisors to ensure high-quality care.

  • Intake sessions are generally 90 minutes. All following sessions are typically 50 minutes and scheduled weekly, unless otherwise discussed with your therapist.

  • Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid being charged your regular session fee. Missed or late cancellations may impact your progress in therapy.

  • Yes. As a training clinic, all sessions are recorded for supervision and the constant improvement of the care provided. Recordings are reviewed only by clinic therapists and licensed supervisors (everyone is bound by the highest standards of ethics and professionalism requiring the protection of your privacy and confidentiality). Recordings are deleted after use. Recordings are not part of your permanent record.

  • No. The MFT Clinic is not a crisis center. If you are in crisis, please call 911 or 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or go to the nearest emergency room.
